County Revenue Authority Initiative Begins To Ticket Parked Cars Parked Counter-Flow To
Traffic, Large Commercial Vehicles and Vehicles Parked On Sidewalks, Grass and Far From Curbs.
The following press release was received by the Glen Allen HOA recently. One of your HOA board
members is a police officer, and he informed us several months ago that the Prince Georges County
Police were making enforcement of this rule a priority. The County has been issuing $50 tickets
to cars parked with "left wheel to the curb" -- parked against the flow of traffic. Without passing
judgement on the initiative, we thought you'd like to know.
From the Citizen's Advisory Council bulletin:
LARGO, MD - Angela Alsobrooks, Executive Director of the Revenue Authority
of Prince George's County, today announced that a partnership has been
formed with law enforcement agencies to reduce parking violations on sidewalks,
lawns and illegal parking in a direction that is opposite from the normal flow
of traffic.
Alsobrooks said that the Revenue Authority will increase enforcement in
neighborhoods to reduce illegal parking of large commercial vehicles, parking on
sidewalks and lawns, parking more than 12 inches from the curb and parking
on the wrong side of the street (opposite the flow of traffic).
"Large commercial buses and trucks, vehicles parked on the sidewalks, in the
grass and against the normal flow of traffic give a disorderly look to our
communities and have a negative effect on property values," Alsobrooks said.
"Additionally, parking against the normal flow of traffic constitutes a
safety hazard, because it means pulling out into oncoming traffic, with a limited
field of vision."
The Revenue Authority is dedicated to promoting the public interest of the
county by facilitating economic development, operating revenue-producing
facilities, financing capital improvement projects and managing public parking
programs. This heightened enforcement initiative is in concert with the County
Executive's "Livable Communities Initiative" which has as its objective,
enhancing livability in the County.
